Happy Holidays from BCHN!

Oh behalf of the BCHN Board of Directors, Executive Team and staff, we wish you a very Happy and Healthy Holiday Season and a Blessed, Peaceful and Prosperous New Year!

Thanks for Your Support!

Thank you for supporting BCHN at this year's Fall Dinner, on Giving Tuesday, and throughout the year.   Your support will allow BCHN to continue expanding our community health and wellness programs, which are helping improve the lives of Bronxites in many ways.  This year's gala celebrated three Community Health Leadership Award honorees: Michael Brady, Iris Rodriguez-Rosa, and Michael Rodgers; and Lifetime Achievement Awardee Eddie Palmieri (pictured below).   You can view more photos from this wonderful evening here.

"Go Healthy with Little Ones" Curriculum Gets Bronx Kids Moving

As part of the CDC funded Bronx REACH Champs program, BCHN developed the "Go Healthy with Little Ones" multicultural toolkit with WHEDco and Day Care Council of New York to give family childcare providers a new option for getting kids moving.    The toolkit includes a curriculum in English and Spanish that focuses on early childhood development and education from infancy through five years, including children with special disabilities.  It also features complementary physical items that aid the provider in performing the activities, with links to songs for dancing and lyrics, categorized by learning theme, that reflect cultures of the Caribbean, Latin and North America, Africa and Europe.  Find out more about the toolkit in the video above.

BCHN Celebrates the Holidays at Bay Eden Senior Center

Once again this year, the BCHN Board and staff collected gifts for the seniors at Bay Eden Senior Center.  Community health educator Cicely Johnson and public relations specialist Roger Newcomb celebrated with them on December 19 during the annual Bay Eden holiday luncheon.

Board Members Give Back at SOMOS Puerto Rico Conference
BCHN Board of Directors treasurer John Ruiz and Carmen Ruiz traveled in November to the SOMOS Puerto Rico Conference in San Juan.  Joining them on the journey was Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez.

Also traveling to Puerto Rico for the conference was BCHN Board vice president Eduardo Alayon.  He is pictured above with Letitia James, who was elected last month as New York's new attorney general.

The BCHN Board members helped in the in reconstruction of a local community center, and distributed books at a day care.

Pictured above, BCHN Board treasurer John Ruiz meets with former Puerto Rico governor Pedro Rossell√≥.  Mr. Ruiz also presented New York State Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie with a lapel pin in appreciation for his support in the reconstruction of Puerto Rico.
