COMMUNITY WEAVING CENTRE AT KAZIRANGA

TCF Kaziranga inaugurated a Community Weaving Centre in a village close to Kaziranga National Park. This centre was established as a flood relief measure, to allow for the continuation of weaving activity even when the village is hit by floods.

Chairman and Founder of The Corbett Foundation Mr. Dilip Khatau plants a sapling during the inauguration ceremony.

TRAINING IN FOOD PROCESSING
TCF Corbett has launched another training programme under its Sustainable Livelihoods purview – Food Processing Training. Beneficiaries of this training – Forest-dwelling communities around Corbett Tiger Reserve – are being trained to make processed foods such as candied amla, mango pickles, jackfruit pickles, tomato purée and other such food products. The Self-Help groups that will be formed post-training, will, with TCF’s aid, sell these products through market linkages, substantially supplementing the income of the community members.
TCF AT THE CHHOTI HALDWANI CENTENARY FESTIVAL
The Chhoti Haldwani Centenary Festival was a celebration of 100 years since Jim Corbett established this little village in Uttarakhand. At the festival, TCF set up a stall showcasing a multitude of products made by trainees under its vocational and skills training programme PUKAAR; hand-made candles, Kumaoni art 'Aipan', local handicrafts, fabrics and more notably, processed food products such as candied  amla and various pickles, made by trainees of TCF's latest training programme - Processed Food preparation. TCF was honoured to have State Forest Minister Shri Dinesh Aggarwal and State Finance Minister Smt. Indira Hridayesh visit the stall to sample products made by SHGs.
WATERSHED MANAGEMENT PROJECT

After completing a study and submitting feasibility report to the Coca Cola India Foundation for a Watershed Management Plan, TCF has launched the Watershed Management project for villages in the Manpur block of Umaria district in Bandhavgarh. Watershed Management serves to encourage agricultural and livelihood development in such rainfed areas, especially in light of the water scarcity and subsequent shortfall for irrigation in these areas. TCF Bandhavgarh is seen here inaugurating the project at site.

SOLAR-POWERED LIGHTS FOR VILLAGERS IN KPC
The Corbett Foundation distributed solar powered lights to the villagers of Khara and Polbatur, both situated deep inside the beautiful forest of Balaghat Forest Division, adjacent to Kanha Tiger Reserve and an important part of the Kanha-Pench Corridor (KPC). Both the villages are not yet provided with grid-electricity. This donation was made possible by the efforts of Tejas Bimal Goculdas, studying in Cathedral High School Mumbai. On visitng these villages, Tejas was was moved by their plight and made an appeal for donations to his classmates. We are extremely grateful to the parents who donated towards this worthy cause. More villages in KPC will be supported by biogas and solar-lights in the near future.
AWARENESS PROGRAMMES WITH KERC
KERC conducted an awareness program for 300 students of St. Xavier’s School (Naliya), where the students were made aware of the biodiversity surrounding them and were taught to make bird-feeders out of waste plastic bottles. A poster-making competition was also held, after which sparrow-houses were distributed to the students. The students participated with enthusiasm and brought a lot of creativity to the programme!
AWARENESS ON WORLD AIDS DAY

December 1st is commemorated as World AIDS day on which programmes  for awareness about HIV and AIDS, support for HIV afflicted people and methods to safeguard against the disease are carried out worldwide. TCF Corbett conducted an AIDS awareness programme for the villagers of Kunkhet village while TCF Bandhavgarh held a similar programme for villagers living on the outskirts of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. TCF works towards educating rural populations around Tiger reserves about HIV and AIDS, prevention methods and reducing the stigma surrounding this disease, in a bid to improve health and living conditions in these communities.
