With a new year comes a new Congress

In addition to the work we do at the state and local levels, PTA actively speaks up for children and families at the federal level.  With the new year comes a new Congress.  The 114th Congress convened January 6 and will be in office through the end of President Obama's term.

Because this is a new Congress, some of you will have newly elected members in your congressional district.  Find out who your members are and how you may contact them.  This is a great time to introduce yourself to your Congressional member or build your existing relationship.

During the next two years, we expect Congress to consider significant legislation, and you can make your voice heard through National PTA 's Take Action Network .  Sign up for free alerts and updates here.

National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month

In May of 2010, state PTA delegates passed the Child Trafficking in California resolution at our annual convention.  We're pleased to report that President Obama recently signed a proclamation declaring January 2015 as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. We have worked during the past few years to help raise awareness about this important issue and invite you to read President Obama's full proclamation here.
