BOTTLE KILN A-BLAZE

A challenge to load a tall arch space became doubly so with the irregularities of sculpture, and delicacy of green ware, but a challenge well worth it in this 3rd firing of the new kiln!  36 hours a-blaze with a glistening coal bed up to level of the door, and the results were an impressive range between heavy ash crust and shimmering salt sheen.  Come and fire this kiln with us during Maryke Henderson's upcoming workshop -- you won't be disappointed a bit!

THE SEDUCTION OF T'SIGILATTA

Sang Roberson may have us burnishing bruises onto our fingertips, but ahhh the gorgeous satin feel of a finely terra sig'ed vessel in the hand, and ooooooo the beauty of the pieces these participants have created!  We have only just begun the raku and pit firings and already the resultant work is stupendous.  It will be hard to go back to high fire glazing after this experience... and hard to let Sang go on back to Taos, NM without knowing precisely when she'll return to Gaya CAC...

RESIDENT ARTIST, "MADE" XANDER'S FINALE

Creating down to the last minute (I caught him raku-firing on the chimney of the gas kiln today:), RA, Xander's ineffable penchant for "the fine line between cute and scary, or beautiful and weird" comes to a culmination in his opening exhibition the 27th of this month.  And although there are certainly a few weird and scary details to behold (like decaying false teeth worked into the side of a sculpture), mostly these breathtaking pieces speak of intuitive and fantastic creativity, fluid dexterity and daring manipulation of the medium, and an intense observation of the natural world in various stages of transformation.  If you didn't make it to the opening of "Entangled Indonesian Insects,"  feel free to drop by-- don't worry, though the sculptures might speak, they don't bite!

SUZI'S UPCOMING SCULPTURE WORKSHOP, SPIRIT OF BALI: CONCEPT, FORM AND TEXTURE

For those interested in accessing and revealing their own story through figurative sculpture and a minutiae of surfacing effects, this workshop is for YOU!  Suzi Jorgenson will lead a fast-paced week of discovery and inspiration ...
